| So, I went home to California two weeks ago to visit my family and to meet my brand new, perfect, little niece. I did four things: 1. played with nephew, 2. talked to sisters, 3. quilted, 4. held tiny niece. Here are some pictures to prove it.
Avalee - isn't she just perfect?! (this picture is from a weird angle, so her legs look disproportionately gigantic, but I think she is still beautiful)
Oh, I just LOVE her.
Noah - He's pretty darn cute too. Three years old and playing a very good big brother.
This is his angry face to scare off potential boyfriends of Avalee...Keep working on it, buddy. You'll get it.
I love being an aunt. I wish I could be more often!
Nephew Quilt. He loves race cars...and trucks...and bulldozers...
Niece Quilt. She loves flowers...and butterflies...and everything pink (okay, that's me). I actually just finished this one today back in Philly, and...I kind of want to keep it. Here's hoping she doesn't pee on it. :)
| I am so, so sore. From what, you may ask. Hard work-out at the gym? 10-mile race two Sundays ago? Carrying groceries up three flights of stairs? No..no.. and no. None of the above. In fact, the culprit is a 9 lb., 4 week old, very, very cute baby. My niece. Apparently, my baby-holding muscles are not well developed. My shoulders, my neck, my back...all sore. Lame. And still two more days to go. Phew...I really do LOVE it though. :) | | |
| While I may be quite careless sometimes, I am now, in fact, officially carless. I just went in to Toyota today, handed over the keys to my truck, signed a paper, took my CD's out of the CD Player (1. Corrine Bailey Rae, 2. Songs for Sad Days - a mix to perk me up on sadder days), and walked away. Simple as that. It is weird, I have not been vehicularly handicapped for 8 years and it feels a little weird, a little liberating, a little scary. A few good things: 1. I never have to search for a parallel parking spot again (people said I'd get better, but every time I try to park that huge truck I get nervous and sweaty and kind of want to cry), 2. No more car payments, 3. No more insurance payments, 4. Lots of walking in this fabulously accessible city, 5. I now have a real reason to mooch rides, 6. I can now use Philly Carshare, which I have been paying for and have not yet used, 7. No more worrying that my car might get stolen, 8. Not paying $75 at the pump, always cowering in fear that the price of petrol might increase...I can't think of anymore right now.
Good bye, old friend. You will be missed... But!! This also means that I am in the market for a new car. I want something with room in the back for Ruger. So, like you open the back part of the car and he can just hop on in. I am currently considering a Matrix or a 5-door Mazda-3. I am leaning towards the Mazda for aesthetic reasons, but towards the Matrix because everyone says how reliable Toyata's are. Anybody want to weigh in? Any other cars out there I should be considering? Know any secrets about the Matrix or the Mazda-3 that might lead me in one direction or the other? VS.
Tough decision... | | |

Avalee Elizabeth Smith...maybe I'm just bias because she is related to me, but I think she is absolutely beautiful!
Cute little perfect family, except my brother-in-law, who looks like he may have been the one to receive the epidural :) He is actually fantastic, and my sister is a very lucky lady. Look at them, they're just so cute. I love it.
Grandma and granddaughter. Precious. How much do I wish I could be there right now?!
| ...again. YAY! So, I was awakened by the following text this morning: "It's baby time! Love, Mom" Now, three things here: 1. My alarm was initially set for 6:15, but I snoozed it so many times that I was still sleeping at 7:30 (talk about lazy), 2. The text was from California, which means it was 4:30am there, 3. I have been checking my phone for missed calls or texts every five minutes for the past several days for just such a message. So here's the skinny: As this is my sister's second (and they're hoping- last), she wanted to see what it was like to not know. We've have been waiting for months...9 in fact, to find out what it was going to be. It's a girl!! Avalee Elizabeth Smith - so exciting! Photos forth-coming... | | |
